A while ago i found a script that installs the Medal Of Honor Allied Assault War Chest on Linux. This “war chest” contains Medal Of Honor Allied Assault, Medal Of Honor Breakthrough and Medal Of Honor Spearhead. I also included a patch that will allow you to play online. All there is to do is to download all the needed files, install the game using the script and run the patch to play online… yes the multiplayer works and there are plenty of servers to play on.
I installed it on Garuda Linux KDE Dragonized Gaming Edition, this is an arch based distro focused on gaming on Linux. To read more about Garuda Linux click on the link to go to the Garuda Linux homepage: https://garudalinux.org/
Original System requirements:
- 450 MHz CPU
- 128MB RAM
- 1.2GB Hard disk space
- 16MB GPU
Installed on:
- OS: Garuda Linux
- Kernel: 5.15.2-zen1-1-zen
- DE: Plasma 5.23.3
- WM: KWin
- CPU: Intel i7-4790K (8) @ 4.4GHz
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 730
- Memory: 15.57GiB
Before downloading all the files make a new folder to place all the downloaded files in. Please note that this folder will also be used as the installation folder. The war chest installation images are the largest files so i suggest to download them first. The file size is 2.4 GB and the transfer speed is low (max 300KB/sec) so it could take a while before it’s downloaded.
You can download the war chest installation discs from the GOG website:
I’ve tried several download options and the one from Pixeldrain seems to be the only one that has all the files in one archive. To download the war chest files click on the Pixeldrain option on the GOG page or on the link below:
https://pixeldrain.com/u/HZHKnmyA
When the files are downloaded open and extract the content of the game-medal.of.honor.allied.assault.war.chest-(2.0.0.21).rar file into the mohaa_wine folder (see next step).
The mohaa_wine.sh is a Wine wrapper that will install all the needed files to play the game. To download the mohaa_wine.sh script click on the link below:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/5jsk88ssz7e0o1n/mohaa_wine.tar.xz?dl=0
When downloaded double click on the mohaa_wine.tar.xz file and extract the files, the files can be found in the mohaa_wine folder.
If all the files are in the same folder open a terminal window in the folder (right click an empty space in the open folder and Select Open in Terminal) and run the script using the command below:
./mohaa_wine
The script will check for missing dependencies, if you get error messages about missing dependencies you need to install them first (sudo apt install package_names_here). When the script is finished you can close the terminal window.
Run the MOHGSFixer server fix patch so you can play online.
For online gaming they used to have gamespy servers but those servers are long gone. To play online you simply have to download and to run a patch, if the patch doesn’t seem to work just run it again until the servers are visible. To download the patch click on the link below:
When downloaded open the patch using wine, select the MOHAA.exe file and run the patch. When the patch is done close it and start the game and go to the multiplayer section and check the browse server list shows the available game servers. If you don’t see the servers then quit the game and run the patch again until you get the server list in the multiplayer section. I had to run the patch 3 times before it worked.
To start the one of the games cd into the installation folder and use one of the commands bellow:
To start Medal of Honor Allied Assault:
./start.sh
To start Medal of Honor Breakthrough
./start-breakthrough.sh
To start Medal of Honor Spearhead
./start-spearhead.sh

Thanks, I can finally play it. I tried lutris and bottles but without luck. lutris wouldn’t even install EA App but that worked in Bottles but there the games just start3ed and crashed on some memory error of sorts and I couldn’t find anything about it.
You’re welcome and have fun playing mohaa!
